X-PIL

Patient information leaflets (PILs) are the leaflets that can be found inside packs of medicines. The X-PIL service makes PILs accessible to everyone. This includes people who are blind or visually impaired, who may benefit from large print, Braille and / or audio formats of their PILs.

The X-PIL web site provides PILs in a number of electronic formats:

  • The original pack insert
  • In large font (18-22 point)
  • In a version that can be used by a screen reader

The X-PIL web site also provides access to the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Medicines Information Line (tel 0800 198 5000). You can also request PILs in a number of different formats

  • In large/clear print
  • In Braille
  • On audio CD

You can also listen to a PIL when you telephone the RNIB Medicine Information Line.

X-PIL is a leading source of reliable and up-to-date information. All the PILs are supplied and updated regularly by UK pharmaceutical companies and are in keeping with the UK regulatory requirements.

Over the coming months over 2,500 PILs will be available on the X-PIL web site.
